As much as I adore HR thought leaders, who I follow, and am inspired by them, I always love to learn about their interests outside of their HR world. I love to read the personal side of their story that helps me understand who they are as a person.
What amazes me about Jennifer McClure, President of Unbridled Talent LLC, is that she is a horse rider, a dedicated athlete, an equestrian champion and more interestingly her unconditioned love to her horse ‘Sarabi’. She is been in the HR industry for nearly two decades and s much as she loves the HR profession her urge to succeed being an entrepreneur inspires me the most.
I had the pleasure to meet Jennifer McClure at Louisiana SHRM conference where she inspired the audience talking about the Future of HR in the Keynote session. She urges HR professionals to be innovative, challenge themselves and think strategically. And here is a short clip that I covered for you.
Jennifer talks about four points that help you become a strategic business partner and a big picture thinker that help elevates organization development. And here they are:
Know your business
Know your business not just from a profit and loss standpoint but really understand your business by moving outside your comfort zone, learning and experiencing cross functional strategies to help you understand how business works and makes money. She encourages you to become a data analyst and use your data to make informed decisions by learning employment trends, opportunities and obstacles.
Be a strategic thinker
Act proactively, be problem solvers in your organization by proactively creating strategies, learning trends and how that impact your organization. Looking at the trends can help you solve business challenges.
We are not change managers but we are looking at and anticipating change happening in the future. So embrace innovation by influencing change. Stop trying to manage change rather think differently, take risks and innovate. HR has a real big role in anticipating potential changes and how the organization can deal with that.
She talks about what HR can do to become disruptive, innovate not just to make HR better but to make the organization better looking at the big picture. She talks about having an influence on the people resources within the organization which is the most valuable resource.
